Salerno Danza Festival: contemporary languages in Castellabate and Ascea, Friday 8th and Saturday 9th July.
Two consecutive days with Salerno Danza Festival, the event dedicated to the languages of contemporary dance through which the historic homes of Cilento become the setting for an edition in which the public and artists meet to re-write, or overwrite, new experiences of meaning through bodies and places.
Friday 8th appointment at Villa Matarazzo in Santa Maria di Castellabate of the Cilento Vallo di Diano and Alburni National Park Authority with the Ersilia Danza Company in “Coppelia”. On stage the duo of an ensemble founded over 30 years ago by Laura Corradi, dancer and choreographer trained mainly in France in Paris with some of the major exponents of French avant-garde choreography of the 90s and with Carolyn Carlson, then in Germany at the Folkwang Hochschule in Essen Werden (Dance University) under the artistic direction of Pina Bausch.
Ersilia Danza tells “Coppelia”, the story of the girl with enamel eyes. «I liked the idea of working on the two female characters, Swanilda and Coppelia, the real woman pervaded by emotions, blinded by jealousy, instinctive and impetuous, victim of every possible human fragility, and the mechanical doll, perfect, who can never lose control because she is a robot, beautiful and cold», explains the choreographer.
The interpreters of this female dualism are Carlotta Plebs, a Venetian dancer and choreographer of highland origins, hot-blooded and emotional, capable of letting herself go and then recovering in great laughter, and Midori Watanabe, an extraordinary Japanese choreographer and dancer who, due to her education and culture of origin, is able to control every emotion as well as every muscle, with a face that seems unreal.
On the same evening, Salerno Danza Festival opens a window on the talents of the territory, hosting the performance of Progetto Danza.
Saturday 9th double appointment at the Giardino degli Ulivi in Ascea: first the Contart performers will dance in “Litania” and, to follow, Excursus in “Due uomini sfiniti”.
The evening opens with twenty-four minutes of dance by Matteo Bittante, four artists from the DanceHaus Company Junior also dance. In the natural setting of the Garden and among the centuries-old trees, the dancers translate into steps the cry of a generation that transcends towards the community and collective harmony, to fight, but above all to live. Litania is a performance in which two different entities are in opposition: on one side the analytical and rational action that pushes man towards the cumbersome form of things, on the other, the emotional and sensitive push of instinct. In an encounter and in a fight for supremacy, or for a surrender, a balance is achieved between the two sides, in favor of a survival that does not elevate the victims but praises the executioners.
The evening closes with the creation of Valerio De Vita, who uses contemporary language to tell the alchemy of contradictions and complicity between two people that leads to an inner upheaval.
Human beings are born to live and make their emotions and instincts live, through direct and indirect contact with something or someone. Gestures complete the relational connections between two bodies that want to live in symbiosis that moment and their movements make its history, they create the frame for a colorful picture of chiaroscuro always in continuous evolution and definition. This allows us to change our expectations, it is impossible to know how situations can evolve.
Salerno Danza Festival is an event conceived by CDTM – Circuito Campano della Danza, created with the recognition of MIC (which included Salerno Danza Festival in its three-year program) and the support of Regione Campania, Sistema Med, in partnership with Progetto Danza di Castellabate and the Cilentomania Association.
