St. George. A prayer vigil for Mariasofia Paparo, the student and swimmer who died of a heart attack in April at just 27 years old is scheduled for tomorrow at 20.30 pm in the church of S. Antonio di Padova in St. George in Cremano (Naples) on the very day she was supposed to get married.
'It may be another difficult day for the family and those who loved her, but the memory, commitment and smile of the swimmer and student from San Giorgio will remain indelible and exemplary for everyone,' says the mayor of the Vesuvian municipality, Giorgio Zinno. Mariasofia was a resident of San Giorgio a Cremano and had prepared the thesis that she was supposed to discuss on April 28, seventeen days after the tragedy that took her life and her future.
Parthenope University – during a ceremony attended by the president of the city council, Michele Carbone – awarded her an honorary degree yesterday. The commission awarded her a master's degree in Navigation Sciences and Technologies in front of her mother, Giuseppina Principe, her sister Mariapia, her aunts and some colleagues of her 'Speedo Italia' swimming team.
