The mayor of Ottaviano resigns to run for office: "It was a thoughtful choice and the result of extensive reflection"
The mayor of Ottaviano (Naples), Luca Capasso, resigns and announces that he intends to run in the next political elections in September.
Elected with the center-right in the first round in June 2018, for the second consecutive term, Capasso has not yet announced the party with which he intends to run for the Chamber of Deputies or the Senate.
“It was a thoughtful choice and the result of extensive reflection – he wrote to his fellow citizens in an open letter published on his Facebook profile – but that does not prevent me from feeling very strong emotions in leaving a position that I have held for almost ten years, for which I have given everything and for which I have spent myself with strength and generosity. The current legislation places a mayor in office in a condition of ineligibility for a possible position as Deputy or Senator.
This means that I am once again questioning myself for my territory, openly and in full compliance with the rules, as I have always done since I started working in politics, as I have always done in my life. In a few months my second term would have ended and I would no longer have been able to be mayor. This resignation therefore anticipates a path that has already been marked. And I am also resigning to make a dream come true: to try to continue working for my territory, for the people, and above all for the new generations”.
Capasso, finally, underlines that he is “a lucky man”. “I have lived a beautiful love story - he concludes - the one that a politician lives with his own territory, with his own community. An intense story, a story that will never end”.
