Camorra summit in Pianura, lenient sentences for the 4 defendants to just over 16 years in prison overall while the prosecution had requested 10 for one and 9 for the other 3.
The preliminary investigations judge of the Naples court, Fabio Lombardi, in fact, did not consider the existence of the mafia association and sentenced them for the sole possession of weapons. The 4, according to the DDA belonging to two distinct criminal groups, had been surprised, last January, during a meeting in a workshop in the Pianura neighborhood.
The investigators' hypothesis was that a Camorra summit was being held in that workshop between members of a local criminal group and members of a clan from Miano.
The defendants are all known to the police: they are Umberto Loffredo, 50 years old,, alias “Padre Pio”, believed to be linked to the Calone-Loffredo group; Gennaro Cato, 41 years old, according to the Anti-Mafia Prosecutor's Office close to the group of “Abbasce Miano”, who has collected the legacy of the Russian in the neighborhood on the northern outskirts of Naples.
It's still Michael Sepe, 66 years old and Francis Scognamillo, 27 years old, related to Antonio Scognamillo known as “Tonino 'o Parente”, the latter son of the historic boss of Soccavo Ciro Grimaldi “Settirò” and long-time ruler of the clan.
Il judge sentenced Umberto Loffredo (defended by the lawyer Vincenzo Scognamiglio) to 4 years and two months of imprisonment while he inflicted 4 years of prison on Catone (defended by the lawyers Domenico Dello Iacono and Luigi Ferro), Sepe (defended by the lawyer Luigi Ferro) and Scognamillo (defended by the lawyer Nicola Pomponio). The Prosecutor's Office had requested 10 years of prison for Catone and 9 years for the remaining three.
