Tragedy at sea in Fano, in the province of Pesaro Urbino, where a 44-year-old father and his 8-year-old son drowned in the stretch of sea in front of the Gimarra beach.
The eldest son, aged 13, was instead rescued and resuscitated and then transported to theAncona Maternal and Infant Hospital. With the three there was also a friend of the son, also 13 years old: he managed to get out of the water on his own and raise the alarm to the mother of the other two children, who had remained on the beach.
The group entered the water after 8am, despite the the sea was very rough and the red flag was flying, a sign of dangerous swimming. At that time the lifeguard service was not yet active. Probably due to a very strong undertow, the three were dragged towards the breakwater: the father Davide Zandri, a worker, resident in a town in Valmetauro, perhaps hit his head.
To lend the first relief efforts the owner of a beach resort and two civil protection volunteers, experts in water sports who were nearby. They also went into the sea and recovered the father and the 13-year-old, who they ventilated in the water during the return to the beach.
Resuscitation maneuvers on the father were useless, while the boy recovered and was transported by ambulance first to the hospital in Fano, then to the one in Ancona with the onset of drowning: now he is breathing autonomously and the doctors have decided not to admit him to intensive care. Of the youngest, however, there was no trace for several hours.
The 118, the local police, the Mayor Massimo Seri, many volunteers. Naval and air vehicles of the Coast Guard converged on the area, coordinated by the Port Authority of Pesaro, as well as the diving units of the Coast Guard and the fire brigade. A helicopter flew over the area continuously.
Finally, around 17pm, the little boy's body was spotted on another cliff, near the railway line and the SS16 Adriatic. A tragedy that devastated a family who went to the seaside for a relaxing Saturday.
