Tragedy in the mountains, 15-meter flight to recover dog: both dead

Tragedy in Abruzzo, on the Maiella, in the Cime Murelle di Pretoro area (Chieti), a hiker died after falling approximately 15 meters down a slope.

The man was with his girlfriend and her Husky dog ​​in the Maiella mountains, along a trail beneath the Murelle amphitheater. From the initial reconstruction of the incident, the hiker and his girlfriend had set out from Pomili refugeOh, but along the path beneath the Murelle amphitheater, their dog fell. The man, trying to retrieve it, fell from a height of 15 meters. There was nothing that could be done for him.

The Abruzzo Alpine and Speleological Rescue arrived on site, called by a boy who witnessed the tragedy. The Alpine Rescue technicians intervened immediately with the 118 health workers and two ground teams from the Alpine Rescue of Penne and Chieti also left. When they arrived on site they could only confirm the death of the hiker.

The Alpine Rescue also recovered the dog, a Siberian husky breed: in serious conditions, the animal was airlifted to the airport to be treated by veterinarians, but did not survive.

The man's body was recovered and transported to Pescara hospital; his girlfriend was taken back to the Pomilio Refuge and informed of her partner's death.

Unfortunately, the Abruzzo accident wasn't the only serious mountain accident today. A climber also died in the province of Belluno after falling from the Alleghesi via ferrata on the Monte Civetta massif.
