The workers' pickets do not stop Whirlpool before the Prefectures, as decided by the joint coordination of Fim Fiom Uilm last June 26th.
Last Friday, delegations from Fim, Fiom and Uilm were received at the Prefecture of Siena and Varese with the aim of requesting a meeting at the Mise as soon as possible to open a discussion on what was declared last April by the American Board, regarding the possible strategic review of the industrial asset in the entire Emea area (Europe, Middle East and Africa).
“The choice of sale or other hybrid options is increasingly possible – we read in a note -. In fact, the agreement to sell all of the production and commercial activities in Russia and Kazakhstan to the Turkish competitor Arçelik dramatically reinforces the concerns of the 5000 Whirlpool employees.
This divestment, of an area that represents 10-15% of the group's turnover in the EMEA area, follows the de facto closure of two other plants, one virtual that involved the office sector of Cassinetta and Fabriano with 300 exits, the other the Naples plant, with 357 employees. Last February Whirlpool presented very positive final data for 2021 (+13% sales and +16% EMEA turnover).
All the prefects are listening to this dramatic scenario regarding the territorial production sites, committing to contact the Mise to open the discussion on the future of the group in Italy. The resources of the PNNR must be allocated, not only to support new industrial projects, but also to strengthen industrial fabrics in which our country maintains a strong leadership”.
