Airola, materasso a fuoco in cella, caos nel carcere minorile. Capece: “Polizia Penitenziaria allo stremo”.
Criticism on Sunday afternoon in the juvenile prison of Airola, in the Benevento area. The news was reported by Sabatino De Rosa, vice regional coordinator for the juvenile sector of the autonomous prison police union in Campania.
“At around 17.30pm, a North African prisoner, who in the past had swallowed detergent and then attempted to ingest some batteries, set fire to the mattress in his cell - he tells - the intervention of the officers on duty who intervened in time, raising the alarm and ensuring first aid was providential".
Then, in the evening, the juvenile facility was left without water and electricity for several hours. “The reasons for the gesture are not yet known, but what is certain is that in the entire juvenile prison there were only four police units on duty, including the porter and the supervisor. – the Sappe complaint – each agent had two Departments, far below the minimum security threshold. A problem already widely exposed previously, but the leaders of the juvenile penal institute seem to turn a deaf ear”.
Donato Capece, general secretary of the union, calls for ministerial interventions: “We must intervene as soon as possible because the Penitentiary Police personnel are exhausted. It is incomprehensible that those who have the duty to intervene, namely the Regional and National Administration of Juvenile and Community Justice, do not intervene promptly”.
