The nine arrested (seven in prison and two under house arrest) are almost all repeat offenders from the province of Foggia. The investigations of the Carabinieri of Avellino, started last year, have allowed to document at least six assaults on ATM machines in the provinces of Avellino, Benevento and Rome, carried out with the help of a network of informers charged with identifying the targets and providing the group with logistical support.
According to the prosecutor of Avellino, Domenico Airoma, "the unscrupulousness and dangerousness of the criminal association is demonstrated by the availability and use for their criminal actions of explosives with a high destructive charge such as to cause, in addition to significant damage to buildings, with danger for public and private safety, on some occasions the total loss of banknotes, destroyed in the powerful explosions".
The Public Prosecutor's Office of Avellino has set up a specialized investigation group on predatory crime, "hoping to be able to avail itself - Airoma underlines - not only of a dedicated specialization of the police forces, but also of the necessary collaboration of every citizen".
