Il gIP of the Court of Bologna, Andrea Salvatore Romito, validated the arrest and ordered the pre-trial detention in prison of Giovanni Padovani, the 27-year-old footballer murderer arrested for the murder of his partner Alessandra Matteuzzi, who was hit with a hammer on Tuesday evening in Bologna.
The hearing was held this morning and the investigating judge had reserved his decision. Before the judge, the accused, defended by the public prosecutorlawyer Enrico Buono, had availed himself of the right to remain silent. “He is very tired”, the lawyer explained to reporters.
Shortly before killing Alessandra, Giovanni had posted a story on Instagram in which he said: “the time has come to leave”. But then he “sent away” another person in his place. Everyone in the building where Alessandra Matteuzzi lived knew of the repeated episodes of persecution by that man against her. Everyone had witnessed those serious threats and violence. But it wasn’t enough for the prosecutor’s office.
Meanwhile, the first macabre details emerge about the hammer with which Alessandra was killed.
It appears that Padovani stole it from his grandfather's workshop in Senigallia, before getting into his car and reaching Bologna. This could constitute evidence of premeditation at the trial.
The reason why they were not adopted precautionary measures to prevent crime, explains the prosecutor who tries to 'justify' it like this: “the complaint did not speak of violent acts (against Alessandra, ed.), but only of abusive behavior”.
“The suspect exercised obsessive control over the victim. He kept her under control from a distance, very often asking her to send photos and videos of where she was and of the people she frequented out of jealousy. In some situations, he also asked her to film the time from where she was to verify that she was telling the truth.”
It explains itAttorney Giampiero Barile, who was appointed to represent Alessandra Matteuzzi's sister. Episodes that were reported in the complaint for stalking filed by the victim last July 29 to the Carabinieri, which was followed by some additions.
