“Fifth Dimension”, a poetic self-portrait of a great contemporary poet
A new extraordinary event for “Amalfi D'Autore. Literary Encounters”. With its evocative power, the undisputed protagonist will be 'poetry' on Friday 26 August at 21 pm in Largo Duca Piccolomini.
The event, promoted in synergy between the Municipality of Amalfi led by Mayor Daniele Milano and the Amalfi Culture and History Center, is a tribute to Corrado Calabrò, author of "FIFTH DIMENSION. SELECTED POETRY 1958 - 2021". A multifaceted personality, that of Calabrò, jurist, writer and poet, former president of Agcom from 2005 to 2012.
A statesman at the service of poetry, and at the same time a poet raised in the world of diplomacy and institutions. In his latest work, published by Mondadori (2021), Calabrò is recognized by critics as a great contemporary poet, with an anthology of great cultural scope that presents itself as an ideological and spiritual testament of his work.
In Fifth Dimension the sea, astrophysics and love are the key elements around which the poet's emotional thought revolves, held together by the energy that gives shape to the firm pronunciation of the dictation, between classic and experimentation, in the variability of forms ranging from the poem to the epigram.
An evening for many voices, which will also include Carlo Di Lieto, Giuseppe Gargano, Giovanni Camelia, Lorenza Rocco, Fabia Baldi, Antonio Filippetti, with musical interventions by Marcello Di Manna.

The sea represents our trait d'union, the connection point with Amalfi. It will certainly be a dialogue full of food for thought, an opportunity not to be missed”.
Quinta dimensione is a precious anthology, updated with Calabrò's most recent production. A poetic self-portrait from which emerges the strong awareness achieved with full expressive maturity, capable of establishing profound relationships between texts born in different moments of life.
“Calabrò enriches the parterre of our literary meetings, hosted in one of the most suggestive corners of Amalfi, the small square Largo Domini which opens between the alleys. An event that arises from the constant synergy with the Amalfi History and Culture Center, between readings and musical moments ", insists the Councilor for Culture, Enza Cobalto.
His first poems were published in 1960 by the publisher Guanda of Parma with the title "Prima Expectation" when he was twenty. Other twenty-three volumes followed, including "Rosso d'Alicudi" published in 1992 by Mondadori, "Una vita per il suo verso", Oscar Mondadori 2002, "The promised star" in the Mondadori "Lo Specchio" collection, 2009, “Quinta Dimensione” Oscar Mondadori 2018, which is the most complete poetic work of Calabrò, followed by the new work.
With this new edition of his selected poems, Corrado Calabrò entrusts the reader with an anthology updated to his most recent production, maintaining unchanged the structure in sections that illuminates the fundamental themes of his sixty-year writing activity. “The true originality of Calabrò” wrote Carlo Bo in 1992, identifying one of the central motifs of his entire work «lies in having detached himself from common models to pursue a different poetic experimentation. He sang not of his sea, but rather the idea of an eternal and unfathomable sea.”
The poems are accompanied by two significant reflections by the author. The dense afterword, entitled “Is there still space, is there still meaning for poetry, today?”, constitutes a balance of the multifaceted interests and passion that Calabrò has poured into making poetry; the other note is instead dedicated to the poem Roaming – which appeared for the first time in the volume “La stella promessa” in 2009 and now placed at the beginning of this book – which represents perhaps Calabrò’s most evocative work. After two thousand years from Lucretius’ “De rerum natura”, in fact, astrophysics has returned to being, in a dreamlike form, a subject of poetry.
The Amalfi d'Autore review will continue until September 7, with the recovery of the meeting with the author Totò Cascio.
