SThe case of the tax on extra profits not paid to the State by energy companies is now being denounced by Codacons, which is appealing to the Rome Public Prosecutor's Office and the Court of Auditors to open an investigation to ascertain any criminal and accounting crimes.
With the Aid Decree Bis, the Government had planned to collect 10,5 billion euros through the famous one-off tax on the extra profits of energy companies, with companies in the sector that would have had to pay a first installment (equal to 40% of the value of the tax) by June 30 and the remaining 60% by November 30 - explains Codacons - We learn today that the majority of companies involved in the provision have decided not to pay, leaving the state coffers empty: of the 10,5 billion euros estimated, only 1 billion euros has been paid.
By doing so, energy companies have deprived families and businesses of the money the State needs to combat the high cost of energy, just on the eve of the new increases in electricity and gas rates that will come into effect in October, and are greatly worsening the bill emergency in Italy: not only immoral and shameful behavior, but also a possible criminal and accounting offense – states Codacons.
The association has therefore decided to file a complaint with the Rome Public Prosecutor's Office and the Court of Auditors, asking to ascertain the facts in light of the possible case of fraud and accounting crimes, considering the repercussions on the treasury front.
