Counter-exodus, the great return begins: red-flagged weekend on the road and motorway network until Monday morning.
The last weekend of the month in Italy is marked by the second counter-exodus of August, with red-marked traffic on the road and motorway network until Monday morning. From 8 am to 16 pm today and from 7 am to 22 pm on Sunday, the transit ban for heavy vehicles is in force. An increase in the flow of people leaving the main tourist destinations towards urban centres has been recorded since Friday afternoon.
Viabilità Italia expects heavy traffic on the main routes, with long queues and traffic jams especially on Sunday evening. In particular, traffic will be heavy towards the northern regions and towards large urban centres, but also for the last departures towards holiday resorts, along the Adriatic, Tyrrhenian and Ionian ridges and at the border crossings towards France, Slovenia and Croatia, and for numerous local journeys.
The Autovie Venete even foresees a black dot with queues forming along the westbound carriageway, that is from Trieste to Venice: 175 thousand transits are estimated today alone, between new arrivals and returning holidaymakers. The significant flow of traffic near the big cities is expected especially starting from late Sunday afternoon, in conjunction with the weekend returns.
The positive note is the arrival of cooler Atlantic air that will bring frequent thunderstorms to the North over the weekend, gradually and partially extending towards the Center-South, with a consequent drop in temperatures. The showers will be followed by large and lasting clearings, explains iLMeteo.it. The first thunderstorms recorded in the North-West will move today towards the East and South and in the afternoon we could have heavy rains in the Triveneto and between inland Tuscany, Umbria and Marche.
Unstable weather also on Sunday, with showers along the Tyrrhenian and Adriatic coasts of Central-Northern Italy already during the early hours of the morning, then the storms will hit the inland areas, patchily the Po Valley and could reach as far as Puglia.
