A bagpipe, a large tambourine and the notes of Bella ciao: this is how the LGBT community of Torre Annunziata had decided to "welcome" Matteo Salvini, today in the Vesuvian city on his second day of an electoral tour in Campania.
However, the leader of the League cancelled the meeting at the last moment. According to what was reported by the leader of the League at the regional council of Campania and candidate for the Chamber in the Campania 2 constituency for proportional representation, Severino Nappi, the reason is linked to sudden commitments in Rome: “While he was coming to Lido Azzurro – he reported – Salvini received a phone call. He tried to move the unexpected commitments, but he was unable to. However, the appointment is only postponed: he will come again in September to Campania”.
But it seems clear that Salvini wanted to avoid the protests. About fifty protesters placed outside the Lido Azzurro, on the Oplonti seafront, were waiting for him since early morning. There was a strong deployment of police forces even if, despite some "colorful" slogans, the situation did not cause particular concern.
