Il mayor di Napoli, Gaetano Manfredi, says yes to the awarding of the honorary citizenship a Dries Mertens who for years wore the blue jersey of Soccer Naples.
The announcement today on the sidelines of the City Council. “I have had many requests both from the City Council and from many citizens - has explained Manfredi - all struck by Mertens' bond with the city, also demonstrated by his desire to keep his home in Naples. We will start the process for the awarding of honorary citizenship because it seems to me not only appropriate but also an acknowledgement to one of our fellow citizens who has given so much from a sporting point of view and also so much to the city and I hope he will continue to do so".
