Nola. No to skimpy clothing in the courthouse of Nola: this was established with an ad hoc provision by the president of the Court, Vincenzo Barbalucca, who ordered the 'absolute ban on entering the courthouse and the courtrooms in skimpy clothing and clothing not appropriate to the decorum of the office'.
The measure was welcomed by the lawyers of the forum. "Nowadays the court, in the summer period, almost seems like a fish market where everyone wears what is most comfortable for them. But it is not like that". Says the lawyer Claudia Ardolino to express her "total approval" to the summer measure.
The provision was issued on the basis of a rather rich case history, which mainly concerns witnesses and parties in criminal trials, who have often shown up in these torrid weeks in courtrooms as if they were going to a beach resort, with clogs, and often filming with their cell phones what was happening in the hearing. In fact, the president has also banned the use of smartphones in the courtroom for filming and recording unless expressly authorized by the president of the panel or by the single judge.
The measure is obviously addressed to everyone, including lawyers; some, especially lawyers, probably did not digest the decision, but the vast majority of lawyers agree. "The president's measure - continues Ardolino - does not limit anyone's freedom, but instills the sense of respect that one must have when entering such an important place as the Court. Everyone, be they lawyers, defendants, consultants, witnesses, when they enter the courthouse must wear decent clothes: everyone in my opinion should come in a jacket and tie, and women in dignified clothes".
“Absolutely agrees” with the provision also the vice-president of the Nola bar association Arcangelo Urraro. “There have indeed been cases of people appearing in court wearing clothing that has caused embarrassment; it is right that rules of decorum are followed, the president did well, even if the provision mainly concerns the parties and consultants” concludes Urraro.
