Naples, tourists mistake a homeless umbrella for a refreshment point. The complaint of the No Comment association.
“We bring, for the umpteenth time, to your institutional attention the persistence of the state of degradation present on the flowerbeds of Maschio Angioino. In addition, for a few days now, among the canvas and cardboard shacks, a beach umbrella has also appeared. From afar it looks like an appendix to a beach resort or a refreshment point. Great disappointment for tourists, but the piles of rubbish remain in plain sight, in the lower corner of the flowerbeds”.
The association “No Comment” reported it through a certified email sent to the attention of the mayor of Naples, Gaetano Manfredi, and the new deputy mayor of Naples, Laura Lieto. On a weekly basis, it sends its activists around the city to identify and report emergencies of various kinds (solidarity, cultural and health and hygiene). In the email, the association (a cultural volunteer for the promotion of visual information in solidarity and non-profit) also attached some postcard-sized photos taken on the morning of August 22.
“We have been reporting the problem since March, – explains Antonio Alfano – On May 30th we also sent a certified email to Minister Franceschini. Never a response, neither from him nor from the Municipality. Obviously the problem is not the homeless who are just looking for a place to live and who open their umbrellas only to shelter from the scorching summer sun, but the state of abandonment in which they find themselves due to the lack of alternatives”.
