Container Leaks: Waste Train Seized. Train Returned to Marcianise.
A train carrying urban waste from Campania to Austria has returned to Marcianise and has been taken over by the Carabinieri.
The convoy had stopped in San Giovanni Valdarno due to technical problems. Then leaks of leachate from at least 28 of the 32 containers - transported on 16 wagons - led the Prosecutor's Office to seize the train. Investigators opened an investigation by checking the waste documents and whether they corresponded to what was transported. Checks that left the train stopped for days, amid protests from residents forced to breathe the miasmas coming from the tracks.
Yesterday the Prosecutor's Office signed the release. The train was sent back, toward Marcianise. This was reported by the municipal administration of San Giovanni Valdarno.
