"Last night, yet another act of violence against tourists in Naples. Damage to the image of the city and yet another blow to our hope of living in a safer environment for us and our children. Just when security has become, rightly, central to the electoral political debate. However, so that it does not remain yet another proclamation in the desert of competence and the ability to be truly incisive, we must immediately include the provisions on security and anti-mafia in the financial law."
Catello Maresca, opposition city councilor, says this in a note regarding the attempted robbery of a Rolex from two French tourists in the Spanish Quarters. "It is necessary not only to give a clear and precise message on the issue of security, but to lay the right foundations to actually realize the declared intentions - thunders Maresca - I have never heard a politician promote unsafe cities and praise the mafia, except for the recent performance of the gentleman from Frattamaggiore, even if promptly denied. But what often happens, or rather almost always, is that resounding proclamations are not followed by facts".
"Because security and anti-mafia, despite what one might think, are complicated and scientifically articulated subjects. Having scientific foundations, they must therefore be approached scientifically. It is no coincidence that many Italian universities have begun to make them study courses."
"The problem - for Maresca - is that the approach taken so far is anything but professional. Everyone talks about anti-mafia but few really understand it. We have long since developed, also thanks to the Vanvitelli University of Caserta, an organic project of interventions to combat crime.
First of all, we solved the problem of financial coverage, proposing the sale of confiscated assets not used for social purposes and of companies destined in 98% of cases to bankruptcy. We must therefore intervene on the duties and powers of the Agency for Confiscated Assets and use the proceeds of the activities to finance actions for the safety of cities. A serious and effective scientific project that we are ready to put at the service of the country".
Finally, "an Inter-Ministerial Committee for Security and Anti-Mafia Prevention must be established immediately to write: new rules of engagement for law enforcement and for arrest in flagrante delicto; anti-mafia control and prevention mechanisms for PNRR contracts; systems for the redevelopment of the suburbs through services (nurseries, schools, meeting places and sports)", he concludes.
