Simona Bencini (Dirotta su Cuba) at Lido Varca d'Oro: Saturday 6 August free admission.
The caressing grooves of the songs mix with the slow surf of the Varcaturo sea. This is exactly what will happen on Saturday 6 August from 22:30 pm at Lido Varca d'Oro, the beach resort and cultural epicentre led by manager Salvatore Trinchillo with the artistic direction of Giulio Montella for Michelemmà Rewind. In this event, a dedication is ready for lovers of the jazz-soul-bossa sound because PAPIK will appear on stage accompanied by singer Simona Bencini (Dirotta su Cuba) with the desire to bring to the beach a sweet, lively and regenerating jukebox of nu soul, nu jazz, calypso, funk and pop atmospheres. Recreating the so-called sparkling cocktail music that finds its doc habitat on a lido. PAPIK, the ensemble born from the musical project conceived by the Roman producer/composer Nerio Poggi, in a rhythmic and melodic up and down slips from pop tones to the verb nu jazz, from bossa nova tones to nu soul accents. Poggi – who over the years has collaborated with Mario Biondi (in two albums by the Sicilian singer), Rosalia De Souza, Phil Palmer and Matt Bianco, Amanda Lear, Frank Mc Comb, Nick the Nightfly and Walter Ricci and composed some of the music for the soundtrack of the Japanese anime TV series “Lupin III.
The Italian adventure” – will lead his band in a sinuous whirlwind through vintage and current chapters for a sound that welcomes Mediterranean epiphanies and African-American languages. To be clear, that musical alphabet capable of incorporating George Benson and Herbie Hancock, Antonio Carlos Jobim and Frank Sinatra. In the concert in Varcaturo, Papik – the formation features nine elements: Poggi is on the keyboards, then there are Federico Buccini (keyboards), Alfredo Bochicchio (electric guitar), Alan Scaffardi (vocals), Gianni Polimeni (drums), Alessandro Sanna (bass), Simone Talone (percussion), Massimo Guerra (trumpet) and Fabio Tullio (sax) – will perform a repertoire that arises from the first album of 2009, “Rhythm of Life” (Irma Records) and is completed up to the recent productions.
Of course, the highlight will be the presence on stage of the guest of honor, the lady of Italian r'n'b - funk Simona Bencini, an icon of the 90s/00s catalog. In the repertoire a dose of classics between slow, romanticism, dancefloor and introspection: from the hit "Let the Music Play" by mister Barry White to "Missing" by Everything but the Girl, from "Jericho" by Simply Red to "Lovely Day" by Bill Withers. Without neglecting "Staying for Good", "Crazy", "E la chiamavano estate" by Bruno Martino and "Figli delle stelle" by Alan Sorrenti. Finally, some retro gems from Dirotta su Cuba: from "Gelosia" to "Liberi di liberi da". And further on, touching on "Sì viaggiare" by Lucio Battisti (from Papik's album "Cocktail Battisti vol. 2"), the cult songs by Anita Baker and CHIC.
