“The environment needs our commitment: Stop Plastic!” is the slogan of the initiative, promoted by Europa Verde at Lido Mappatella, on the seafront of NapoliEco-friendly water bottles, cigarette holders and shopping bags were distributed to bathers to combat the use of plastic on our coasts, which is one of the main sources of pollution.
“We must defend our sea from waste, illegal dumping and plastic materials that compromise the balance of increasingly fragile ecosystems,” said Francesco Emilio Borrelli, regional councilor. “With Europa Verde we have fought a ten-year battle to make the sea at Mappatella Beach suitable for swimming, and today on this beach many Neapolitans meet, but also many tourists, both Italian and foreign, who can finally enjoy a clean sea in the center of the city.
But caring for the environment also involves the battle for civilization. On this beach, waste bins have been installed, but some people still leave garbage scattered everywhere, we have had the showers repaired several times, but vandals continue to destroy them for fun. Initiatives like 'Stop Plastic' are aimed precisely at raising awareness among people on the issues of environmental protection and care for public property, because each of us can do our part to improve the territory in which we live". Concluded the regional councilor of Europa Verde, Francesco Emilio Borrelli, promoter of the initiative.
“Stop plastic on the beaches is one of the many initiatives that we have carried out over the years with Europa Verde – added Agostino Galiero, provincial spokesperson for Europa Verde – The goal we set ourselves is to have an environmentally sustainable beach, accessible to everyone and always clean. Giving away a water bottle or a cigarette holder, as we did last year, means reducing pollution, but to have a truly usable beach we must make it accessible to everyone, especially to people with disabilities, another of the battles we have been waging for months”. These are the words of the provincial spokesperson for Europa Verde, Agostino Galiero.
“Europa Verde’s commitment to the redevelopment of the Rotonda Diaz beach is ongoing,” explained Luigi Carbone, Sole che Ride city councilor. “Through the Municipality, we asked ABC to intervene to resolve the problem of the marsh that has formed on the beach for several months.
Unfortunately, the sea resource service did not have sufficient funds and the intervention was slowed down, but now Acqua Bene Comune will intervene, thanks to our requests, with earth lifting equipment to mix the sand, drain the water and prevent new stagnation. We want this beach to become the symbol of the city, with functioning services, such as showers, changing rooms and, why not, even a beach volleyball court. A jewel in the crown for Neapolitans and an unmissable place for tourists to visit”. Said Luigi Carbone.
The members of Europa Verde also participated in the “Stop plastic on the beaches” initiative: Isabella De Luca, candidate for the Senate, the president of the regional federal council Rosario Pugliese, the councilor for Municipality I Benedetta Sciannimanica, the councilor for Municipality II Salvatore Iodice, Carmen Santagata and Ferdinando Ruocco, representatives of the disability department of Sole che Ride, and Marilena Schiano Lo Moriello, Francesco Ferraro, Simona Ferraro, Gioacchino Ferraro, Vincenzo Vasquez, Federico Chianese, Angelo Tuccillo, Diana Pezza and Vicente Carlos Migliucci of the management of Europa Verde.
