Pollica. On the twelfth anniversary of the murder of Mayor Angelo Vassallo, the commemorative events begin.
Tomorrow, September 1st, the young people of Libera, gathered since Tuesday, August 30th for the 5th National Meeting of the Young People of Libera, which is taking place at the “Mare Pineta” campsite in Paestum (Salerno), will move to Acciaroli to remember Angelo Vassallo, the mayor killed on the evening of September 2010th XNUMX with nine gunshots. In the afternoon, after visiting the Museo del Mare and the Museo della Dieta Mediterranea in Pioppi, at the port of Acciaroli they will meet Stefano Pisani, mayor of Pollica, Antonio Vassallo, son of Angelo and Bruno Vallefuoco, head of Memoria Libera Campania.
At 17.00:2 pm the young people will set off in a procession to reach the place where the mayor was killed for a moment of reflection and the laying of flowers. On Friday 9,30 September at 2020:XNUMX am at the “Mare Pineta” campsite in Paestum, the young people will meet Don Luigi Ciotti, national president of Libera. Following on the beach, a relay of memory and commitment with a special witness holding a special witness between their fingers: a piece of wood from a boat that arrived in Lampedusa. A piece of wood that continues to tell a painful story of lost lives, of hope, of poverty, and that reminds us, makes us responsible, of the universal duty of welcoming. The XNUMXth Libera rally is dedicated to Mario Paciolla, an activist who died in mysterious circumstances in July XNUMX while carrying out his duties as a United Nations volunteer.
On Monday 5 September, the 18.30th anniversary of the brutal murder of Angelo Vassallo, from 18.30:XNUMX pm his community, the mayors of Italy, the Authorities, Associations and ordinary citizens will pay homage to his memory. The commemoration ceremony will begin at XNUMX:XNUMX pm with the Holy Mass at the church Maria SS dell'Annunziata, followed by the celebrations will move to the adjacent Arena del Mare on the Acciaroli Tourist Port where a laurel wreath will be placed in the sea to the tune of "il Silenzio".
The Municipality of Pollica, in collaboration with Legambiente, have decided, after two years of interruption due to the pandemic, to restart the Angelo Vassallo award. This is an award that is given to Mayors who promote the development of territories while respecting the environment and legality. Who are committed to increasing among citizens a greater awareness and participation in collective life while respecting common goods and ecological awareness. The award is therefore aimed at Mayors who have been able to undertake exemplary actions to safeguard and promote the values and themes that inspired the action of Mayor Pescatore - Angelo Vassallo so that his example continues to be a source of inspiration for all those who decide to make their commitment and skills available to the community.
This year the award is also enriched by an important moment entitled Communities in Transition - Energy Re-Evolution" in which the first citizens of the main Italian cities will talk about how the Mayors leading communities that are facing regeneration processes , great challenges and a profound transition, the energy one which cannot ignore other epochal revolutions such as the digital and cultural ones, can and must make the difference.

We are all well aware that the energy transition, understood as the construction of a new model of social organization based on the production and consumption of energy from renewable sources, is as necessary as it is urgent. For it to be effective, cultural, material and immaterial changes must be triggered, based on a new conception of the world that is inspired by Integral Ecology and pursues balance for our Planet”.
