A large-scale fire broke out shortly after 11am this morning on the outskirts of San Valerino Torio, in the province of Salerno.
A large fuel depot with an attached petrol station caught fire in an area bordering Sarno. Numerous firefighter crews were on site along with carabinieri and ambulances.
The flames caused fuel tanks to explode, raising a dense, very high black cloud that was visible for miles around.

Law enforcement and civil defense officials, who are on site to coordinate services, have evacuated numerous families living in the area. The mayor of San Valentino Torio is also urging residents to keep windows and balconies closed and not leave their homes unnecessarily throughout the affected area.
