The body of little Mattia , swept away by the water along with his mother Silvia Mereu in the flood that hit the Marche region on September 15 , was found in a field near the Nevola River . The Carabinieri made the sad and macabre discovery of the 8-year-old boy's body , already in an advanced state of decomposition , following a citizen's report.
Mattia 's body , which he was wearing a yellow and green T-shirt when found, will be identified through an autopsy and DNA testing , which the Prosecutor's Office has already ordered. The alarm was raised this afternoon by an employee at a rural daycare center, who found the body about 200 meters from the Nevola Riverbed . From there, she alerted the landowner, who then called the Carabinieri.
Mattia's body was found several kilometers from where he disappeared.
