Going to the cellars in Ischia, the appointment to discover the places of wine is approaching

Thirteen days. To live intensely, to discover and to taste. From September 20 to October 2 in Ischia it will be time again for “Andar per Cantine”, the key event of the Ischian autumn organized and promoted by the Pro Loco Panza, now in its XNUMXth edition. With an increasingly rich and intriguing program of initiatives to promote the Green Island, where the culture of wine has been at home for three thousand years.

Daily appointments:

Biancolella, Epomeo, Frassitelli, Forastera, San Lunardo, Piedirosso. The routes to discover the solid peasant identity of the island are named after famous Ischian wines. Every day you can choose between four or five itineraries in places on different sides of the island, all highly suggestive and representative of the ancient relationship between the Ischian land and the vine, omnipresent from the high hills to the sea since the settlement of the Greek colonists from Euboea in the 8th century BC. And each route includes three stops in ancient cellars dug into the volcanic rock and in farms and agritourisms that practice viticulture. The opportunity to get to know first-hand, in the period immediately following the grape harvest, the places, the people, the lands, the microclimates and the ancient processing techniques that make each of the wines protagonists of the tastings unique and unrepeatable elsewhere, enriched by other typical products, strictly zero kilometer.
: Path of the two Bays, Path of the Hermitage of Monte Epomeo, Path of the Heroic Vineyards, Path of the Stone Houses, Path of the Madonnina di Buttavento, Path of Pizzi Bianchi, Path of the Frassitelli at sunset, Path of the Mouth of Tifeo at sunset. Every day there is an excursion on one of these eight paths, chosen from the many that cross the green heart of the island, for the presence of vineyards as a characteristic element of the landscape together with the terraces overlooking the sea and the peculiar dry stone walls (the parracine) of gray or green tuff, depending on the area, which have always been an integral part of Ischian viticulture. With varying degrees of difficulty and length, all the paths enhance sites of particular naturalistic value, where there is no lack of significant historical and cultural evidence, characterized by a great biological variety and constantly accompanied by panoramas of great beauty, with breathtaking views of the sea from the Gulf of Gaeta to Punta Campanella, from the Pontine Islands to Capri. Some afternoon itineraries will allow you to enjoy the wonder of the sunset over the sea from the most suggestive viewpoints of the island.

Special appointments:

On Wednesday the 28th, in the morning, you can follow a special Gourmet Trail, which will first stop at the Pithecusae Archaeological Museum in Lacco Ameno, where the Nestor's Cup is kept, with the oldest Greek alphabet inscription found in the West, which evokes the symposium ritual in verse, and then at the Casa D'Ambra Farming Museum in Panza.

This will be followed by a visit to the cellars of the historic winery.
For all the routes, which will start from Piazza San Leonardo in the center of Panza, in the municipality of Forio, a shuttle is planned and the presence of expert guides, who will also follow the itineraries.

September 22nd will be Rabbit Day. Twenty-three restaurants, wineries, and agritourisms will offer menus entirely dedicated to rabbit and the typical dish of the festival, including that of the grape harvest, for the people of Ischia.

The program includes the Cantinando sotto le stelle events on September 21, 23, 27 and 29, with a suggestive evening tour of tastings in the most characteristic cellars. And on Friday, September 20, we will set sail for “Le vigne del mare”, with the historic “Rondine” to admire the northern coast of the island while tasting wines and other typical island products. Among the Taste Events, aperitifs every evening, the Charity Gala Dinner on September 25 and the Festa al Negombo on the 26, for Ischia Safari in Lacco Ameno, with the participation of great chefs. The event will close on October 2 with “La cena della vendemmia in vigna”, to experience the atmospheres and share the flavors and joy of the final rite of the grape harvest that is repeated every autumn in the island countryside.
