Arzano. Roaring and probably souped-up engines, without helmets, without insurance coverage and with uncovered faces: it represents the new status symbol of the local mafia, strengthened by the latest high-profile releases from prison.

The alarm was raised and confirmed by dozens of citizens who, especially in the afternoon, reportedly witnessed motorcycles and a Fiat Panda racing at a mad pace between Via Melito, Via Pecchia, Via Sette Re, Piazza Cimmino and Via Napoli all the way to Via Colombo.

After the celebrations with luxury sports cars, fireworks, serenades of neo melodic and bows to the godfathers of the banner depicting the Madonna: daily reports come from different parts of the city. They would speed at crazy speed through the streets of Arzano, with side streets taken the wrong way.

These are the new frontiers of the local Camorra, an offshoot of the Beloved-Pagan which in the city, despite being decimated by arrests and raids by the Carabinieri, is trying to impose its presence.

The clan, in difficulty after investigations that also revealed high-profile murders, is said to have placed the reins (but only temporarily) in the hands of small-time drug dealers and errand boys.

The military of the Arma decimated the city's "dome" after several anti-Camorra operations by placing 29 people, believed to be leaders and followers of the 167 clan, in handcuffs. Riding scooters, Angelo Antonio Gambino and Salvatore Romano, known as Sasy (recently released from prison), surrounded by bodyguards, invaded the city streets with their presence.

According to numerous previous investigations, the clan's tax collectors would not make any distinction between entrepreneurs, shopkeepers, beauticians and cigarette smugglers. So much so that members of the Moccia clan, Giuseppe Orlando (killed in Afragola a few years ago) who had reported the request for protection money, also ended up as victims of extortion. In short, what is emerging marks a turning point also in the new criminal mapping of the conduct of illicit business in the city.
