Tehran. The video for "Bella Ciao," sung in Persian by a young woman in honor of Mahsa Amini, the 22-year-old woman who died after three days in a coma following her arrest for not wearing the hijab, the Islamic headscarf, is moving and becomes a hymn to freedom.
In these hours the video of 'Bella ciao' in Persian has gone viral, and there is no shortage of comments on social media against Laura Pausini who in recent days during a Spanish talent show had refused to sing the song because it was considered 'political propaganda'.
Today 'Bella ciao' becomes the anthem of freedom for Iranian women forced to wear the veil and is sung in honor of the 22-year-old Iranian woman killed by a Driving Patrol of the Islamic Republic of Iran, the special team called 'moral police' charged with the public application of Islamic norms.
The killing of Mahsa Amini has been followed by numerous protests against the police in major cities in Iran, including Tehran. According to official media, at least 35 people have been killed during the crackdown by Iranian security forces, four of whom are children according to Amnesty International sources.
Over 100 Iranian film personalities have come out in recent hours against the repression, calling on security forces not to target protesters with bullets. Actors and directors have condemned the police repression of demonstrations in support of Mahsa Amini.
