Campania By Night: extraordinary evening openings in the archaeological areas of Oplonti, Stabia and Boscoreale

The series of extraordinary evening openings promoted by Scabec arrives at the sites of the Archaeological Park of Pompeii with a special program of free tours and theatrical visits

The 2022 edition of Campania By Night enters the cultural sites of the Archaeological Park of Pompeii.

Starting from September 11th and for the whole month of October, the most suggestive cultural places of Torre Annunziata, Castellammare di Stabia and Boscoreale will host the program of guided tours, night walks, extraordinary openings and outdoor events.

The exhibition – planned and financed by the Campania Region (Poc 2014-2020) and organized and promoted by Scabec, Società Campana Beni Culturali – presents a packed calendar of completely free events that will be held in Oplontis - Villa di Poppea, Libero D'Orsi Archaeological Museum, Villa San Marco, Villa Arianna and Villa Regina

We start from the archaeological site of Oplontis – Villa di Poppea with the show “Memorie di Oplontis” by the ShowLab Association which will be performed on 11, 18 and 25 September.

During three shifts of visits that will start at 20, 21 and 22 pm, it will be possible to discover all the timeless beauty of the ancient villa thanks to a fascinating theatrical journey put on by musicians and actors.

By relying on an expert guide and a smartphone App that will act as a map, it will be possible to learn the history behind the immense and labyrinthine structure through the performances of artists that can be admired inside some rooms such as the Tablinium, the Pool and the Viridarium.

The next appointment is for Tuesday 20 September at Villa Regina di Boscoreale with a mask exhibition and the show “Oscae Personae” by La Mansarda – Teatro dell'Orco.

During two visiting shifts that will start at 20pm and 21pm.

On the 30th, it will be possible to attend a revisitation of the Fabula Atellana, an ancient form of masked theatre that will be reworked in a contemporary key during a highly engaging show.

Alongside the performance, an exhibition of classical theatre masks will be set up, which will be accompanied by the reproduction of a phlyax theatre, an art form developed in the Doric colonies of Magna Graecia in the Hellenistic age between the 4th and 3rd centuries BC.

In October we start again from the Libero D'Orsi Archaeological Museum in Castellammare di Stabia with the theatrical visit “Where is Stabia? Dreamlike journey through the rooms of the Libero D'Orsi Museum” curated by Collettivo LaCorsa, an event that will be held on October 8 and 9 and which can be attended during the visiting shifts at 19 and 20 pm.

The dramatized visit will last one hour and is aimed at families and children aged between 7 and 13.

An initiative aimed at discovering the figure of Libero D'Orsi, an archaeologist from Castellammare di Stabia who is responsible for the discovery of the finds that can be admired inside the museum of the same name.

A show interpreted in a dreamlike way that will lead the spectator to a timeless place in which the Narcissus of stucco will come to life and body to finally be able to tell his story with his voice. A fairy tale that allows you to get lost, search and finally find yourself again.

The Campania By Night itinerary in the cultural sites of the Archaeological Park of Pompeii will conclude with the theatrical visit “Stabias renatas” directed by Gabriele Saurio and curated by the Fondazione dei Monti Lattari which will be held at Villa San Marco in Castellammare di Stabia on 22 and 23 October and at Villa Arianna on 29 and 30 October.

During two shifts of visits that will start at 19:20.30 pm and XNUMX:XNUMX pm from both archaeological sites, participants will be able to take a journey through the finds of the two Roman villas during an artistic performance made of music and acting, an artistic experiment aimed at creating an interaction between the place of art and theatrical language.

At Villa San Marco, among others, the monologue by the actor Mariano Rigillo is planned, who, playing Pliny the Younger, will narrate, based on the letter to Tacitus, the death of his uncle Pliny the Elder, which occurred right in Castellammare di Stabia in the tragic eruption of 79 AD, as well as other characters linked to the history of Stabia. During the visit to Villa Arianna, instead, spectators will meet characters inspired by the ancient world in some areas of the villa. Among these is also a "young painter" who, betrayed by her partner, decides to reproduce the wonderful fresco present, thus narrating the story of the myth of Theseus and Ariadne during the creation.
