Naples, the restoration of the Faun with cymbals in Villa Comunale has been completed. This is what the Municipality of Naples said in a note.
Thanks to the agreement between the Municipal Administration and the MACS Association, Patrons of the Arts, Cinema and Sport, chaired by notary Roberto Dante Cogliandro, the restoration of the Faun with Cymbals, the first of eight statues located at the entrance to the Villa Comunale, on the Piazza Vittoria side, has been completed.
The project was presented this morning during an inspection conducted by Mayor Gaetano Manfredi with the councilors for Parks and Gardens, Vincenzo Santagada, and Infrastructure, Edoardo Cosenza.

The Villa's eight restored sculptures, dating back to the Neoclassical period and copies of Roman statues depicting mythological subjects on tall pedestals, are almost all works by the Genoese sculptor Tommaso Soleri (one of the two statues of Hercules with Faun was created by the Roman Andrea Violani) and originate from the Royal Palace of Caserta. Initially located inside the villa, they were moved here as part of the renovation of the entrance commissioned in 1780 by Ferdinand IV of Bourbon, designed by Carlo Vanvitelli.
As part of the project, the statue of the Faun playing the Piper, currently kept in storage, will also be restored and reassembled.
