Riots during the Napoli-Lecce football match: two visiting fans arrested.
On Wednesday 31 August, at the end of the Napoli – Lecce football match played at the “Diego Armando Maradona” stadium, a group of Lecce fans, during the outflow phases from the sports facility, attempted to pour en masse onto the balcony of the Away sector and tried to break through the police cordon placed at the end of the stairs, positioned in order to guarantee the orderly outflow of spectators. The attempt to break through was carried out, first, with spitting and pushing towards the police officers, and then continued with kicks, punches and some belt blows which also caused bruises to an operator.
The next day, thanks to the viewing of the images recorded by the video surveillance systems present at the Maradona stadium, the DIGOS personnel of the Naples and Lecce Police Headquarters together with those of the San Paolo Police Station were able to identify some of the probable perpetrators of the riots and violence.
Two men, belonging to the most violent fringes of the Lecce ultras fans, were arrested for resisting, violence and injury to a public official, and one of them also for use of dangerous material, subsequently transferred to the penitentiary facility of Borgo San Nicola di Lecce.
