Festival Ethnos XVII Edition with the accordionist Alessandro D'Alessandro

The sounds and cultures of the world meet at the XXVII edition of Ethnos. The international ethnic music festival conceived and directed by Gigi Di Luca scheduled from September 9 to November 3, 2022, in 5 municipalities on the Vesuvian coast.

Artists from various parts of the world will arrive in the villas of the Golden Mile and in the historic sites of San Giorgio a Cremano, Ercolano, Portici, Torre del Greco and Torre Annunziata for a dialogue between music, dance, theatre and traditions.

Big names in the music scene will alternate on the travelling stage of Ethnos over the course of two months.

Green, Portugal, Mozambique, France, Mali, in addition to Italy. Among the many guests expected
this year: African music icon Oumou Sangaré, the Portuguese singer of
Cape Verdean origins Carmen Souza, the acclaimed multi-instrumentalist and singer of
Tsingtao (Shandong) Wang Li, the Franco-Argentine trio Aguamadera, the new voice
of the European folk Maria Mazzotta.

To inaugurate the 2022 edition of the festival, Friday 9 September at 20.30 pm at Villa
Vannucchi (San Giorgio a Cremano), will be the French sextet San Salvador. A
group that fuses Occitan polyphony and rhythm, singing and percussion, using interlocking
vowels, drums of various shapes and hand clapping.

The following day, September 10, the Cuban composer Ana Carla Maza presents
a refined concert for voice and cello at Villa del Parnaso (Torre Annunziata). A
a blend of jazz, classical music, bossa nova and Latin American sounds.
To close the first weekend, on September 11th at Villa delle Ginestre (Torre del Greco),
it will be Alessandro D'Alessandro, one of the most talented Italian accordionists,
accompanied on this occasion by the singer Margherita Abita.

In addition to music, there is also space for dance and theatre, with workshops and shows. In
stage the companies Movimento Danza by Gabriella Stazio and Tarantarte, the actress
Cristina Donadio in "Appassionata," a theatrical musical reading with Mario Crispi.

Savoretti (Percussion), directed by Gigi Di Luca.

There will also be space for new generations and new talents with the finals of the three categories
of the Ethnos GenerAzioni contest: music, dance and theatre.
Finally, the appointment with Ethnos for Schools is renewed, with the protagonists being:
two appointments at the Villa Bruno Foundries, Cafè Loti - namely Nando Citarella,
Stefano Saletti and Pejman Tadayon – October 13th and Raiz & Radicanto on October 3rd
November.

"The program of the XXVII edition of Ethnos, as always, does not follow trends,
inviting the public to delve deeper and discover artists rooted in
contemporaneity as in tradition" – declares the artistic director, Gigi Di Luca.

"A festival educates, accompanies growth, proposes novelties, and Ethnos has remained that since 1995
faithful to its innovative cultural project line, which has been able to look to the future
as in the past preserving memories. Thanks to the constant work on research of the
quality and enhancement of the territory has received recognition from the Ministry
of Culture which included the festival in the single entertainment fund 2022-2024".

“Also for this XXVII edition – explains Mayor Giorgio Zinno – Saint George a
Cremano will host five concerts, the three finals of the Ethnos GenerAzioni competition,
aimed at artists under 35 from all over Italy and the project dedicated to schools
which will close the review next November. It is the testimony of how our
city ​​continues to be the point of reference for this exhibition, now recognized
universally as the festival of cultural contamination. Also through art
and knowledge of popular traditions, we spread the values ​​of hospitality and
tolerance and inclusion”.

Planned and co-financed by the Campania Region through Scabec and by the
Ministry of Culture, the XXVII edition of Ethnos is organized by La Bazzarra
with the contribution of the Municipality of San Giorgio a Cremano and the Banca di Credito
Popular and in collaboration with the municipalities of Portici, Ercolano, Torre del Greco, Torre
Annunziata, with the Fondazione Ente Ville Vesuviane and the Department of Agriculture
of the University of Naples Federico II.

Ethnos is an artistic-cultural event designed to promote knowledge
of the “cultures and arts of the world”.
