Filottete, the show of the classical theatre of the Vanvitelli University on stage on Saturday. Saturday 17 September at

On Saturday, September 17, at 19:30 p.m., in the courtyard of the Archaeological Museum of Ancient Capua, the show "Filottete" will be performed again. The show is produced by the Classical Theatre Laboratory of the Department of Literature and Cultural Heritage of the University of Campania, in collaboration with the Archaeological Museum and under the patronage of the AICC - Italian Association of Classical Culture, Terra di Lavoro Delegation.

The show is inspired by the Sophoclean drama of the same name: Philoctetes is the hero abandoned on an island by his companions because he is unable to fight at Troy, but then recalled in compliance with the dictates of a prophecy (the Greeks will need him and his bow to win the war).

In the free adaptation proposed by Cristina Pepe, professor in the Department of Humanities and project leader, and Massimo Santoro, Sophocles' text blends with Homeric verses and the words of the modern Greek poet Giannis Ritsos, offering a reflection on highly topical themes such as marginalization, the subordination of individual interests to those of the community, and the often incomprehensible reasons for war. Directed by Massimo Santoro himself, the performance will feature students and doctoral students from the Department of Humanities and Cultural Heritage.

The event confirms the effective and fruitful collaboration between the Regional Directorate of Museums Campania and the Department of Letters and Cultural Heritage, thanks above all to the commitment of Marta Ragozzino, Regional Director of Museums Campania and Ida Gennarelli, Director of the Archaeological Museum of Ancient Capua, of the Amphitheatre and of the Mithraeum.

Before the show, two guided tours (at 18.00 pm and 18.30 pm), curated by CoopCulture, will be offered to the permanent exhibition “I Segni del Paesaggio: l'Appia e Capua”, which displays precious testimonies of the Roman city preserved for many decades in the warehouses and never exhibited until now.
