Gas and Electricity: The Ministry of the Interior has published the Regulation to "immediately achieve savings at the European level that will help prepare for possible interruptions to gas supplies from Russia."

Among the measures foreseen is a reduction of 1 degree for the heating of buildings, from 17 with more or less 2 degrees of tolerance for buildings used for industrial, artisanal and similar activities, from 19 with more or less 2 degrees of tolerance for all other buildings.

"The operating limits for heating systems, compared to what is set out in paragraph 2 of Article 4 of Presidential Decree no. 74/2013, are reduced by 15 days with regard to the activation period (postponing the start date by 8 days and bringing forward the end date by 7 days) and by 1 hour with regard to the daily activation duration."

This is what is stated in the Mite Regulation for the containment of gas consumption, which however specifies that sensitive users (e.g. hospitals, nursing homes, etc.) are exempt.

Estimates of the impact of all the containment measures indicated by the Regulation published by the Ministry of the Environment "lead to a potential of approximately 5,3 billion cubic meters of gas, considering the maximization of electricity production from fuels other than gas (approximately 2,1 billion Smc of gas) and the savings associated with the containment of heating (approximately 3,2 billion Smc of gas)".

To which, explains the Mite, are added the behavioral measures to be promoted through user awareness campaigns for the purpose of more virtuous behavior in consumption.

The expected contribution from the measures adopted by the Ministry of the Environment, along with voluntary behavioral measures for efficient energy use, "leads to a reduction in consumption consistent with the 15% of the EU Regulation, equal to at least 8,2 billion cubic meters of natural gas." This is stated in the text of the Regulation recently approved by the Ministry of the Environment.

"The blockage of the Nord Stream 1 gas pipeline further increases the likelihood of a recession in the eurozone."

Fitch analysts stated in a note: "The complete shutdown of the Nord Stream 1 pipeline," the rating agency's experts explain, "further reduces the already slim margin for error in balancing the European gas market this winter, although the EU's strategy to mitigate the worst effects of the blockade on the market remains credible."

Meanwhile, the plan that cuts residential gas consumption will be implemented by September. Therefore, in Lampedusa and other islands in the South, the radiators will be turned on on the Immaculate Conception, December 8, and will be turned off on March 7 (5 hours a day). The same start date for Palermo and Trapani, with the possibility of closing the season on March 23 (7 hours a day). In Naples and Caserta, it will start on November 22 and will end on March 23 (9 hours). While between Rome and Pescara, the start will be on November 8 and then the radiators will be turned off on April 7 (11 hours a day). Finally, in Milan and Turin, the hours will be reduced to 13 hours, between October 22 and April 7.

Radiators: degrees down but there is “tolerance”

The switching on of radiators has been postponed by 8 days, bringing forward the end of operation date by 7 days. The temperature of one degree at 17°C +/- 2°C of tolerance for buildings used for industrial, artisanal and similar activities; 19°C +/- 2°C of tolerance for all other buildings. Therefore the thermostat can reach 21.

Showers, two minutes less

Virtuous behaviors such as a shorter shower can be worth a 29% cut in starting consumption, according to Enea estimates. Just reduce the shower time from 7 to 5 minutes. Among the recommended measures there is also the use for winter heating of electric heat pumps used for summer air conditioning.

Oven and stove: Low heat after boiling

A few precautions also for household appliances. Like lowering the heat after boiling or reducing the oven ignition. Lowering a gas burner, for example, to half the initial power after boiling pasta is a measure that allows you to save 25,7% of the gas required for cooking.

Washing machines, one wash every two days

A good habit could also be to reduce the washing machine cycles from one a day to one every two days. You can save by generating about 126 kWh every year, in fact 50%. Not only that. Unplugging the washing machine allows you to save energy during all the hours in which it is not in use.

TV and decoder, don't leave them on stand-by

Eliminating the stand-by mode of electronic devices, not only the television, and disconnecting the related sockets (also through the use of more or less intelligent power strips) when not in use, is highly recommended. Just to give an example, a television in stand-by mode absorbs about 0,5 W of power.

Checks, checks on gas use

In addition to "random checks on public buildings, premises, and high-consumption locations," "central heating system operators will be held accountable." "User response will be monitored at the city gas distribution network level using hourly gas withdrawal data."
