In Europe, working women earn the 13% less per hour compared to men, even though paying a woman less, for the same time and tasks, is a completely illegal practice. The data speaks clearly: the Gender Pay Gap it is a reality that weighs on all working women, conditioning their life choices.

In fact, most of the time, women make professional choices influenced by family responsibilities which they feel (and are) most burdened by, requesting part-time work, or adapting to working in low-wage sectors or non-managerial positions. Italy is not virtuous, since it is in 63rd place among the countries in the world that guarantee equal pay.
According to the World Economic Forum it will take another 267 years before an adequate female participation in the world of work is created in terms of economic opportunities.
Some positive signals are coming from world of sport which is timidly trying to adjust the salaries of professional athletes to those of their colleagues. The road is still long because the phenomenon is deeply rooted and little recognized. Other encouraging examples concern the initiatives of some States, like Iceland and New Zealand, which have enacted Pay transparency laws against gender discrimination.
