The words of a parish priest from Carinaro, in the province of Caserta, caused a stir when, during the mass for the feast of Sant'Eufemia, he urged those present to make higher offerings.
An incitement that has sparked controversy, especially since the video of the request was shared on social media.
These are the words of the parish priest of Carinaro: "To those who pass through our streets," he says from the altar, "through our buildings, let us welcome them with a smile, with our prayers, and with the gift of generosity, as you have always done. This year with a little more, because everywhere we went to purchase and negotiate, we were told that everything had increased.
So a little more, I won't say how much, than in other years and I think we can cover all the expenses.

The video was released, among others, by regional councilor Francesco Emilio Borrelli following a tip from a citizen who wrote to him: “I'm a family man who works in Acerra and lives in the province of Caserta. I volunteer with an association, but when I see these things, I get disheartened."
Among those who cry shame and those who point out that salaries remain unchanged, there are also those who try to give a less venial interpretation to the priest's words: "The purpose is unclear," one comment reads, "but if it were to help the most vulnerable, it's normal for everything to cost more and be more needed. Perhaps he should have said it differently, but at least he was clear and direct."
