What was supposed to be a tried and tested scam, implemented using the so-called mirror technique, has turned into an extortion attempt against a Neapolitan professional.

To stop the criminal action of a 45 year old criminal, of Pomigliano d'Arco, it was the State Police who, late yesterday morning, on the state road 162 of the Centro Direzionale, arrested the man because he was responsible for the crime of attempted extortion.

For a small investment of only €3.00, i.e. the cost of purchasing about twenty lollipops, which he threw from the window of his car at the targeted vehicles, in order to simulate a collision between vehicles, he forced the unaware victims to stop to assess the damage, demanding the sum of €450.00 as compensation.

The officers of the Campania-Basilicata Highway Police Department, as part of the surveillance services set up against predatory crimes against motorists, intercepted and arrested the 45-year-old red-handed on the state road 162 of the Centro Direzionale.

The victim on duty, who was travelling on board his Mercedes B-Class car, after having overtaken a Volkswagen Golf car, heard a noise coming from the rear of his vehicle and, immediately afterwards, was approached by the driver of the aforementioned vehicle who ordered him to stop, claiming that he had been hit.

The victim's attempt to exonerate herself by denying her involvement was in vain and, without realizing it, she fell into the trap of the 45-year-old who

forced him to stop by placing his car in front of him, thus preventing him from escaping.

The driver of the Mercedes, intimidated by the man's threatening tone and fearing reprisals, agreed to admit the accident, adding that he would contact the insurance company to settle the damages.

The offender, not satisfied with this, in an intimidating tone, immediately demanded payment for the damage, estimated in his opinion at €450,00, demanding that the victim make a withdrawal from the ATM, as he did not currently have the entire sum requested available.

It was precisely at the moment in which the victim was handing over the first tranche of money, €300,00 in €50,00 notes, that a patrol of the Judicial Police Squad of the Campania-Basilicata Highway Police Department, passing by, noticed the scene and intervened promptly, stopping the offender while he was pocketing the money.
The police arrested the extortionist, taking him, after the usual checks, to the Poggioreale prison.
