Scampia The protagonist of the preview of Clean Up the World, the environmental volunteer campaign organized in Italy for 30 years by Legambiente, scheduled this year for September 30th and October 1st and 2nd. The aim is to clean up streets, squares, parks, as well as beaches and riverbanks of abandoned waste and say no to all forms of prejudice, barriers, and violence.
Requalifying urban greenery while contributing to the recovery of ecosystems at risk, with these objectives the volunteers of Legambiente and local associations will meet tomorrow 6 September at 11.00 in Scampia via Tancredo Galimberti (area under the bridge) to clean up the area where, thanks to the Green Mosaic Forestry Campaign, conceived and promoted by AzzeroCO2 and Legambiente, hundreds of plants will be planted in autumn
Stefano Ciafani and Mariateresa Imparato, national and regional presidents of Legambiente, will be present at the initiative; Nicola Nardella, President of the VIII Municipality of Naples; and Paolo Mancuso, Councilor for the Environment of the City of Naples.
"With the Scampia initiative, the countdown begins for the 30th edition of Clean Up the World, our environmental volunteering campaign that sees us on the front lines, working with citizens of all ages to clean up urban areas, streets, and parks from abandoned waste. Public green spaces," comments Mariateresa Imparato, president of Legambiente Campania, "have always provided strategic services to our cities, helping them withstand rising temperatures, improve air quality, and foster social interaction.
At the same time, they are the Cinderellas of public budgets, lacking the resources for maintenance, management, and safety, and are often abandoned or closed.

In the next few days, a protocol of adhesion of the Municipality of Scampia to the Legambiente and AzzeroCO2 Campaign will be signed, which will bring new oxygen to the territory. In fact, trees represent the most powerful "technology" we have in the fight against climate change, urban pollution and the improvement of air quality, given the specific function of trees and shrubs to remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.
"With the National Green Mosaic Campaign, we at AzzeroCO2, together with Legambiente, are advancing forestation projects that bring together local authorities, businesses, and citizens with the goal of renaturalizing the targeted areas, mitigating air pollution, and creating sound-absorbing barriers. All of this is aimed at creating a healthier environment for the population," said Sandro Scollato, CEO of AzzeroCO2.
These are the foundations on which the project we are going to implement in Scampia will be based. Green areas in urban areas generate benefits that must be absolutely pursued today, given the decisive role that their presence can have in mitigating the effects of the climate crisis and reducing pollution. It is precisely in cities that the most important game for our future is played and it is therefore essential to implement a strategy in urban centers aimed at making these spaces inclusive, resilient and sustainable and we do this by planting trees which is among the most useful measures to stem the environmental problems that afflict our time”.
"The Municipality," stated Nicola Nardella, President of the VIII Municipality, "is proud to host Clean Up the World on its territory. We believe that these initiatives will ultimately lead to the redevelopment of the area. Environmental issues are crucial and must be placed at the center of political agendas."
