Naples, at the Pan an exhibition on David Bowie: from 24 September to 29 January 2023
David Bowie – The Passenger will open the new autumn season of exhibitions in Naples at the Pan – Palazzo delle Arti.
After the success of the exhibition on Andy Warhol which ended last July, the company Navigare Arte e Cultura presents the important exhibition dedicated to the Thin White Duke, curated by Ono Arte Contemporanea, created with a collection of exceptional photographic documents signed by the American photographer Andrew Kent, who established a relationship of trust with Bowie and followed him in an intense period, between 1975 and 1978, during the frenetic journeys by train and ship, on the occasion of his tours in the main European capitals.
The retrospective, which features 60 photographs as well as documents, memorabilia, clothing, tour posters and reconstructions of settings from Kent's archive and private collectors, bears witness to the important period that marked Bowie's return to Europe and, at the same time, provides a glimpse into a continent then divided by the Soviet Bloc.
From Paris to Helsinki, from Berlin to Moscow, the extraordinary British artist crossed Europe and observed it, drawing continuous inspiration from it and finding refuge there at a decisive moment in his career and life. His return to Europe would be the incubator for his famous Berlin trilogy: the albums Low and Heroes, from 1977, and Lodger, from 1979. “Known for having also created the most iconic images of other great artists such as Freddie Mercury, Iggy Pop, Frank Zappa, Elton John and many others, Andrew Kent has made possible an extraordinary project that will surely be loved by David Bowie fans – explains Salvatore Lacagnina, producer of the exhibition – but also by the public that has never yet approached the eclectic artist, undisputed protagonist of the contemporary music scene, actor, painter, photographer, capable of influencing artistic and aesthetic languages and of conquering immortality”.
David Bowie – The Passenger is produced in collaboration with the Municipality of Naples, the Pan – Palazzo delle Arti NAPOLI and Diffusione Cultura and will be open to visitors every day from Saturday 24 September to Sunday 29 January 2023.
