Castellammare, dies of heart attack in hospital while emergency room is closed for covid

Castellammare. A judicial investigation will shed light on the cause of death of 49-year-old Mario Buono, who died of a heart attack while waiting in the emergency room of San Leonardo Hospital, which was closed for sanitization.

His family filed a complaint against the Castellammare di Stabia health facility for failure to provide assistance and delays. His death occurred on Tuesday, September 20th. The man, a resident of the CMI neighborhood, experienced severe chest pain and was immediately taken to the hospital.

But upon his arrival, a patient present in the emergency room tested positive for Covid.

The next day, the family filed a complaint with the Carabinieri, who seized the medical records and launched an investigation. The body is currently under seizure in the hospital morgue. They will now have to await the magistrate's decision on the autopsy date, at which point the investigation notices will be issued.

"The company will conduct all possible investigations to clarify the exact circumstances," the Local Health Authority (ASL) explained. "We are sorry for the patient's death and will also conduct our own investigations. When the man arrived at the emergency room, a COVID procedure was underway, and the patient was told by the nursing staff to wait ten minutes. Before the estimated wait time, the medical staff went into the waiting room to call the man, who unfortunately was already in cardiac arrest. The doctors attempted to resuscitate the 49-year-old, performing all lifesaving measures. This is a tragedy that deeply affects us."
