Marina and Vincenzo, an elderly couple from the Spanish quarters who are subject to an executive eviction order that should be carried out next Thursday, September 29, because they are in arrears with the company on 10 years of rent "due to the costs incurred, precisely in that period, to allow Vincenzo's lung transplant".

The situation was further complicated by the illness of Marina, whose family has lived in the building in Vico Lungo Montecalvario for over 100 years, and who has been undergoing treatment for lung cancer for three years.

“To deal with Vincenzo’s illness,” Marina explains to ANSA in the room used as a kitchen where she welcomes us, “we have been reduced to poverty but as we have let the ASL know, we are willing to pay what is due. Maybe a little at a time.” Relatives and acquaintances came to the family’s aid and allowed Marina and Vincenzo, aged 60 and 64, to make an offer to return to the ASL.

“Thanks to the help of relatives and friends, we have collected 5 thousand euros to offer to the ASL in addition to 250 euros per month to add to the fee requested as an installment on the debt, but the amount that the ASL is asking us, 20 thousand euros immediately, is unattainable for us. We have also looked for other accommodation, but finding a house today even in popular neighborhoods like this has become a challenge”.

“We are old and sick,” adds Marina, “and leaving this house, this neighborhood, means for us above all giving up a network of friends and relatives that guarantees us, in case of need, support, help and solidarity.”

The activists of the “Campaign for the right to housing” who reported the case met on Thursday morning in Vico Lungo Montecalvario to seek a final mediation. “I hope that our appeal and our offer – Marina implores – will be taken into consideration by the ASL to allow us to spend the rest of our days in this house. In our house”.
