Naples, gunshots in Piazza Trieste e Trento: the shocking images

In Piazza Trieste e Trento, during the night between Saturday and Sunday, a person riding a scooter, while passing by, fired several gunshots.

Moments of terror, outside a bar, with all the customers, including women and children, fleeing as soon as they heard the shots. A general stampede, as shown by a shocking video, dictated by the panic of being hit and injured, or worse, killed.

"It was unheard of, a demonstration in the very center of the city, just a stone's throw from the Royal Palace and Piazza Plebiscito, while so many children were present.

The images that have reached us of that exact moment are disturbing: they slam reality in our faces, showing us that we are now living in a climate of urban guerrilla warfare, with crime living and operating with unbridled rein.

Nothing stops them, which is why the escalation of crime seems to have no brakes. Surveillance cameras and permanent police presences had been promised, but there is not even a shadow of these things today.

Unfortunately, the same old story always repeats itself, but the time has come now for the institutions to make their presence felt with force, to intervene concretely, or we will remain at the mercy of crime, and we will no longer even be free to spend a few hours at the bar". So says Francesco Emilio Borrelli, regional councilor of Europa Verde who received several reports of what happened during the night shortly before 2am.
