Napoli. In the church of Piedigrotta, on Saturday morning, the last farewell was given to Elvira Zriba, the 34-year-old hit and killed on Lungomare Caracciolo by a hit-and-run driver. Grief and emotion among the many present.

“Where is God? How could all this be allowed? Why did he choose to let a good, hard-working girl, loved by everyone, die? God certainly wasn’t on that motorbike,” said the priest during the homily, the same one who a few months earlier had celebrated the funeral of Mustafà, Elvira’s brother, who also died after being hit by a criminal on the road.

After the funeral ceremony, a procession reached the site of the tragedy.

Hundreds of outraged citizens called for justice and urgent action to ensure greater road safety. A delegation from Europa Verde also attended the funeral and procession, immediately expressing their support for the young victim's family.

Present were the regional councilor of Europa Verde Francesco Emilio Borrelli, the regional co-spokesperson Fiorella Zabatta, the national treasurer of Sole che Ride Francesco Alemanni, the councilor of the 1st Municipality Benedetta Sciannimanica and the councilor of the 1st Municipality Lorenzo Pascucci, and the president of the regional federal council of Europa Verde Rosario Pugliese, Agostino Galiero, provincial co-spokesperson of Sole che Ride.

"What happened is dramatic. But the fact that on Friday evening, again on the Lungomare, two other boys were hit by a car at full speed, makes us understand that nothing has changed. We expected, after Elvira's death, a more massive presence of the police and drastic interventions, but it was not like that. We ask the Prefect and the Police Commissioner to set up an urgent roundtable for public order and safety, to guarantee greater protection and the safety of citizens on the roads. Elvira cannot have died in vain, we need to do more and do it as soon as possible", said Borrelli and Zabatta.
