Naples. Another road victim in the city center after the tragedy of Elvira Zibro , the 34-year-old woman hit and killed by a hit-and-run motorcycle while crossing a pedestrian crossing on Via Caracciolo.
A 62-year-old man, Giuseppe Iazzetta , who was walking his dog, was struck and killed while crossing the street in Piazza Sannazaro , at the intersection with Via Caracciolo , by a Toyota Yaris that was likely traveling at high speed. The impact occurred a short distance from where Elvira Zibro was struck and killed.
A relative of the man who was hit told the story, having turned to the Regional Councillor of Europa Verde Francesco Emilio Borrelli:
“We must intervene as soon as possible to ensure that people do not continue to die from these accidents. My brother-in-law was hit in Piazza Sannazzaro while walking his dog. He was admitted to Cardarelli in dramatic conditions but he did not make it. He was 62 years old, he leaves behind two children and a wife.
The traffic lights are flashing at certain times and because of uncivilized and reckless drivers you risk your life in that area every time you cross the road. If they had worked he wouldn't have been hit but I think it's also the fault of the speed of the car, which stopped after the impact to offer help, since Giuseppe was thrown for about twenty meters and hit his head hard.
“We have been asking for some time now for measures to combat speed and to fight road pirates. We have asked the technical offices of the municipality to check the condition of the traffic lights in Piazza Sannazaro on the Via Caracciolo side and above all we want speed bumps and blanket checks immediately. Unfortunately, nothing has changed since the death of Elvira Zibro.
"The safety of citizens must be a priority, no more tragedies. It is unacceptable that certain streets in our city are used as racetracks for reckless drivers and motorcyclists. How many more deaths must we mourn before decisive action is taken? We have waited and tolerated too much," Borrelli commented to radio host Gianni Simioli.
