Naples, the 'Ambassador of Neapolitan Music' award is born on the proposal of councilor Gennaro Demetrio Paipais.
The Culture Commission of the Naples City Council, chaired by Luigi Carbone, has approved the proposal to establish the "Ambassador of Neapolitan Music" award, which will recognize artists who have contributed to bringing Neapolitan music beyond the city's borders.
The proposal was submitted to the mayor, who established a dedicated office within the City Council to implement the "Naples City of Music" program. It will be under the direction of the Music Office that the award will take shape, with the appointment of a special evaluation committee and a set of rules.
"This isn't just a tribute, but above all an investiture that empowers the beneficiaries with the role they can play in supporting the promotion of this excellence worldwide and in strengthening the music industry in Naples, especially for the emergence of new talent.", explains Carbone.

The Commission, at the suggestion of Councilor Gennaro Demetrio Paipais, initially nominated several artists to inaugurate the award: Gigi D'Alessio, for the event, broadcast live worldwide on Rai to mark the thirtieth anniversary of his career. D'Alessio's performance focused on the Neapolitan music scene, drawing a vast audience's attention thanks to his successful interaction with new generations of local artists who are interpreting the latest trends, which are so popular with younger audiences.
Other artists who emerged from the debate promoted by Paipais included Neffa, who dedicated his latest album to the city of Naples, Maestro Roberto De Simone, the youth orchestras, and Riccardo Muti. Over the years, the award will be enriched with other proposals from cultural institutions, associations, and the administration.
"The revitalization of the city - Paipais announces during the Commission - It passes through music, and that is why, for our artistic tradition, it is essential to establish a prestigious recognition for artists who have distinguished themselves by bringing our musical culture to the world. And that is why, during the Culture Commission meeting, I proposed establishing the award and nominating, through a commission of experts to be appointed by the Mayor, Ferdinando Tozzi, the lawyer responsible for the music and audiovisual sector of the City of Naples, and the Culture Commission of the City of Naples, several ambassadors who have internationalized Neapolitan music and who are available to submit proposals and tributes for our city. Naples boasts a roster of authoritative musicians who deserve due recognition.
Speaking in the Commission in support of the institutionalization of the award were the vice president of the city council Flavia Sorrentino and the councilors Pasquale Esposito, Pasquale Sannino, Luigi Musto and Toti Lange.
