Nunzia De Girolamo's slip on TV: "Womb for rent? In Scampia women would sell their wombs"

Sensational TV blunder by former Benevento MP Nunzia De Girolamo, wife of PD MP Francesco Boccia.

When asked about the topic of homosexual families during a broadcast on La7, De Girolamo first said: "I am against surrogacy" and then he added: "I imagine Scampia, where women stop dealing drugs and start dealing wombs."

De Girolamo's words did not go unnoticed and the first to take them up and reply was the Welfare Councillor of the Municipality of Naples, Luca Trapanese, who has always been attentive to social issues.

"At his words I felt the pain of Scampia burning in my veins.", writes Trapanese in a long post on his Instagram profile. And then he adds: Scampia is one of the neighborhoods in Naples that has paid the highest price due to the institutions' abandonment of the suburbs.

Nunzia De Girolamo, who was part of the Institutions during her political experience as Minister, should know this very well. In Scampia, where the institutions do not arrive, due to a lack of will, courage or simple inadequacy, the people arrive, those who love their neighborhood despite everything, who work daily to make the streets safe, who nourish hope.

Much has changed in recent years, and women are the heart, soul, and courage of this change, constantly seeking alternatives for their children, to keep them away from the wrong paths, to offer them a chance for the future. And Nunzia De Girolamo dares to claim on television, with chilling naturalness, that women in Scampia spend their days dealing drugs, and would gladly spend their days "dealing wombs."

Very serious words spoken first and foremost by a woman, who evidently has very limited knowledge of Scampia and not enough sensitivity to understand that those women are true giants.

Courageous women, who live a very different life from that of parliamentarians and television commentators.

I ask Nunzia De Girolamo to publicly apologize to the women of Scampia, who certainly don't deserve her words of contempt, but rather support and encouragement to not give up and to resist."
