SalernoLast night unknown persons broke into the headquarters of Filt Cgil in Salerno, damaging three doors. This act of vandalism is being investigated by State Police officers who this morning conducted surveys of the building located in Piazza Vittorio Veneto, near the train station.
The technical investigation has been entrusted to forensic personnel, who will attempt to extract useful evidence from the tools "forgotten" inside the building. The perpetrators ripped out a door and removed panels from two others, but took nothing. The building also houses the headquarters of another trade union, but the raid only targeted the offices of Filt Cgil.
Investigators are working to reconstruct the motive for the act and to determine whether it was merely vandalism or a full-blown attack on the union headquarters.

"This is certainly an act of intimidation and demonstration, given that nothing was taken from the headquarters, despite the fact that several easily transportable IT devices were located there," reads a joint statement signed by the provincial secretaries of CGIL and FILT CGIL, Antonio Apadula and Gerardo Arpino.
When you attack a union headquarters, you're attacking a bastion of freedom. Union headquarters are places frequented by workers, so last night's attack is an attack on the entire working world and on democracy. Yet another cowardly attack on a CGIL headquarters is serious in itself because it unfortunately reiterates a historic objective of an outpost of democracy that should not be underestimated.
It happened during the twenty-year Fascist period, and today, as then, we will not be intimidated. We trust that all citizens, as well as all political forces, will condemn this latest attack on the democratic forces of this country.
