Untraceable goats, sheep and pigs discovered and seized by forestry police
Soldiers belonging to the Carabinieri Forestale Stations of Vairano Patenora and Alife, together with the personnel employed by the ASL/CE Veterinary Operations Unit of Teano, have proceeded, in the countryside of the municipality of Vairano Patenora (CE), in the locality of “Verdesca”, at the expense of the land manager, to the administrative seizure for health and precautionary purposes of protection of public health and livestock heritage, of the following income-producing animals:

no. 23 mixed-breed goats with variegated coats;
no. 53 cross-breed sheep and three lambs;
nr. 1 sow with a litter of nr. 8 piglets and nr. 1 lean breed cross-breed pig with a white coat;
nr. 1 a sow with a litter of nr. 6 lean category piglets and a cross-breed boar with a black coat.
The seized animals were all found to be of unknown origin and, among other things, no ASL company health code was attributed to the owner of the farm.
The aforementioned soldiers prosecuted for the following violations of the regulations governing the sector:
• failure to identify and register animals of the bovine, ovine, caprine and porcine species;
• failure to carry out mandatory State Prophylaxis for livestock in order to identify in advance any infections transmissible to humans such as: brucellosis, tuberculosis, leucosis, swine vesicular disease, etc. Furthermore, for pigs there is also the health emergency of swine fever.
Investigations are underway to determine the origin of the items.
The administrative precautionary measure was applied in order to: avoid the continuation of the anti-legal situation; avoid the free movement and marketing of livestock and any derivatives thereof; for mandatory and urgent health reasons in order to immediately subject them to identification and the required and mandatory State Prophylaxis by the competent veterinary service; guarantee the complete traceability of each animal and/or zootechnical derivative for food safety purposes.
