Yesterday, the runway of the 9th Wing "F. Baracca" of the Italian Air Force grazzanise was contacted, following activation of the "118" emergency service operations center, for the emergency medical transport of a patient suffering from serious burns and in imminent danger of life.

The Grazzanise military airport immediately provided unconditional support to the operation, specifically allowing rapid access to the Caserta Air Base by the ambulance from the Pineta Grande hospital in Castel Volturno and promptly authorizing the landing of the 169 A-118 helicopter. Patient RB was transferred from the ambulance to the helicopter and only moments later took off for Genoa where he was taken into care by the local specialized facility.

The Wing's personnel supported the 118 healthcare personnel both in the phases of transferring the patient from the ambulance to the helicopter, and in those relating to assistance in flight activity.

The 9th Wing, with its HH-101 and HH-212 flight assets, carries out operations in support of Special Operations as well as the search and recovery of isolated personnel in hostile territory (so-called Personnel Recovery operations), providing air support to special forces and intervening, in the presence of any injuries, with emergency medical evacuations.

As soldiers in the service of the State, the task of the 9th Wing is precisely to contribute to the security of the country, to the defense of vital national interests, to protect human lives and to be increasingly useful to the country.

The Department also contributes to the security arrangements for military deployments abroad, peacekeeping and humanitarian relief operations, as well as the implementation of protection measures at national level during major events or to maintain public order.

The 9th Wing is directly dependent on the 1st Special Operations Air Brigade, which in turn reports to the Air Squad Command based in Rome.
