40 vehicles were also confiscated and a commercial activity was seized
Operational units of the Italian Army of the Operation "Land of fires" and the Police, in collaboration with the national and regional agencies responsible for the investigation and repression of environmental crimes, have conducted a special inter-force operation in the Naples area and in the province of Caserta, called “Action Day”, aimed at identifying and combating commercial activities that illegally produce and dispose of special waste in the area.
The sites subject to checks were identified by operators and specialists from the Army and the Naval Air Operations Department (ROAN) of the Guardia di Finanza, also through the use of technologically advanced equipment, as well as by patrols from the Caserta and Naples Police Headquarters and by agents from the Metropolitan and Local Police.
In the municipalities of Castel Volturno and Mondragone, the joint operation of the military of the 3rd Bersaglieri Regiment and the Police Forces, supported by officials of the territorial agencies specialized in combating environmental crimes, led to the control of three businesses, the identification of 11 people and the imposition of sanctions for administrative offences, with fines quantified at over 325 thousand euros.
In particular, thanks to the coordination and direction of the ROAN of the Guardia di Finanza of Naples, a commercial activity of over 15 thousand square meters was seized, with the confiscation of 40 vehicles and the reporting of two people for multiple environmental crimes.
Five crews were employed to control and verify the sites, with a total of 5 women and men from the Italian Army and three patrols from the Guardia di Finanza (ROAN) of Naples and the Territorial Police of Mondragone with units from the Carabinieri, State and Municipal Police of Castel Volturno, Provincial Police of Caserta and officials from ASL and ARPAC of Caserta and the Central Inspectorate for the Repression of Fraud (ICQRF).
Furthermore, in Mondragone a joint activity was conducted between the Army and the Municipal Police, which led to the seizure of a private area used as an illegal dump for all kinds of waste and to the reporting of a person, who was given an administrative fine of approximately 70 thousand euros.
The surveillance and control activities against environmental crimes, directed and coordinated by the Deputy Prefect Filippo Romano, responsible for combating the phenomenon of fires in the Campania region with the joint use of the Army, State police forces, local police forces and Fire Brigades, are implemented according to the joint plan of the Prefectures and Police Headquarters of Naples and Caserta.
