Torre Annunziata, worker dies of mesothelioma: INAIL sentence. The man had been exposed to asbestos fibers between 1978 and 1991.
Judge Beatrice Marrani of the Velletri Court (Rome) has ordered INAIL to pay occupational disease compensation to the heirs of Giovanni Panariello, a worker from Torre Annunziata who died of mesothelioma after being exposed to asbestos. The National Asbestos Observatory announced the news in a statement.
The widow will be paid approximately €110 in arrears, including the asbestos victims' fund, and a monthly income of approximately €2.

The devastating diagnosis arrived in February 2017, and the man died at just 66 years old in December of that year. INAIL, which had nevertheless recognized the man as suffering from an occupational disease, disputed not only the causal link between the asbestos-related death and his work activity, but also the exposure to asbestos itself.
Furthermore, the man had been retired in January 2010, benefiting from the social security benefits required by law for exposure to asbestos, with certification from the INPS itself which noted: "exposure to asbestos was recognized for 666 weeks between February 11, 1978, and September 16, 1991."
"INAIL denied the evidence and its own conclusions - commented the president of the National Asbestos Observatory, lawyer Ezio Bonanni - Once again, they are failing to recognize the rights of the heirs of an asbestos victim. A man who worked his entire life to support his family was diagnosed with mesothelioma, a very serious disease that took his life in less than a year.
